Protect Your Credit Card Information from Trojan Horse Viruses Identity Theft

trojan horse virus and credit cards

Your credit card information is at risk online. Protect your credit card information from a trojan virus.

I was not able to write a post for June 7, 2012. It wasn’t because I thought to the take a day off. It was because I did not renew the virus protection on my computer and I contracted a trojan horse virus.

I suppose I thought I could avoid getting a virus if I avoided opening strange attachments or downloads. I figured that when I got around to it, I would renew. That was a mistake.

I was lucky. My brother happens to be a computer guy, and he was able to take it off. It wasn’t an easy thing to get rid of. The Trojan horse virus was able to shut down basically 80% of my computer. The virus sent me pop ups stating that it detected a virus. They pretended that they wanted to help me remove it. I knew that this was a scam. I showed the messages to my brother, and he confirmed my feelings. Basically, if I proceeded they would ask me for my credit card information.

My brother told me to go to Best Buy and buy anti-virus software. He told me I would spend between 40 – 50 dollars without a complete guarantee it would work. He obviously knows what he is doing since I am typing this today. It wasn’t easy he had to go into dos to run my anti-virus program. I had the kind of virus that blocks the install of virus protection software through the operating system.

The Final cost 40.00 for the software plus 6.00 to buy my brother lunch while he worked on it. I was very lucky. I was fortunate to have a nice brother to help me with my problem. I was lucky that my lapse in judgment of just renewing my virus protection didn’t cause me to lose my files.

My brother told me the type of trojan virus on my computer could have been the kind of virus that steals personal information including credit card numbers. An anti-virus protection program can prevent virtually all viruses from entering your computer. It is important to allow your anti-virus program to make all necessary updates. This will ensure that all the information is up-to-date and that your computer is protected from the latest viruses.

Identity fraud is a serious problem. When someone steals your credit information, they can destroy your credit. They can charge purchases to your credit card accounts, and you may think it ends there because in most cases banks will credit your account back. Consumers become irritated because they are left the tedious task of restoring their good name. This involves phone calls, personal visits, and writing letters. In some cases, individuals discover they are a victim of identity theft only after they try to get approved for a mortgage. Most often a mortgage will not be approved until the credit fraud issues are resolved.

I was lucky, and my story ended well. I won’t lapse my subscription with my anti-virus program again.
